Uphill House B&B was built in 2010 by a lovely mother/daughter team and Sam, Scott, Suzanne, and David bought the B&B from them in 2014. The B&B is one of the more modern B&Bs in Central Virginia and the family has enjoyed putting their own personal touch on the business and property. In 2014, the B&B also became a Virginia Green Lodging Facility and the profile can be viewed here.
The first few years under the Darlings/Solomons heavily prioritized the grounds which now has a 1/2-mile walking trail; a split-rail fence around the entire yard; expanded flower beds in both front and back yards; paved back walkway with a new lattice fence and pergola; and a paved front walkway bordered with railroad ties, new flower beds, and a lighted seating area under another pergola in the front of the house. During the Spring of 2016 the B&B’s garden was expanded and fenced in and work also began on a new fire pit area. There are always side projects going on at Uphill House and Sam posts everything on the B&B’s Instagram page.
Uphill House is a part of the greater Inns at Montpelier network which not only includes a partnership with the amazing, historical home of James and Dolley Madison, but also numerous local businesses, including a ton of great wineries in the area. We are proud to offer coupons and discounts for many of these businesses, so please inquire when you reserve your room. In 2015, the B&B also expanded its offerings to accommodate weddings and special events (check out our Occasions page for more information).
We have enjoyed being a part of the Orange County community and are part of the local Chamber of Commerce. The B&B participates in and promotes many local events and Sam is a proud winner of the pie contest two-years running at the Gordonsville Fried Chicken Festival (third week of May each year).
